Junior Kindergarteners Channel NPR with Podcast on the Human Body

Inspired by the children’s doctor-themed dramatic play and the Bennett Day “Get Wellthy” Challenge, Mr. Nearpass and Ms. Simmons’ kindergarten classroom spent three months researching the body and medical professions to better understand how to keep themselves healthy.

Some topics they explored were the digestive system, the brain, and the importance of medicine and vaccinations. As the study progressed, the children felt more empowered by visiting the doctor and taking medicine. To help other children better understand their bodies, they brainstormed ways to share what they learned. Using the expertise of a classroom parent, they recorded their voices to make a podcast, hoping their information would be heard on the train, in a car, or when waiting for a doctor’s appointment.
