Our Senior Spotlight campaign honors Bennett Day School’s first graduating class – a group of earnest and courageous students who took a chance on a high school that didn’t even exist yet.
Throughout the last four years, these students have proven time and time again that young people are innately capable, curious, and competent, especially when they feel seen and heard at school.
Stay tuned between now and the end of the school year as we give each senior an opportunity to share memories, advice, and future plans!
Senior Spotlight: Natalia
Why did you choose/decide to go to Bennett Day School? In middle school, I really loved math (and still do) and I wanted to be in a space that allowed me to make the most out of that interest. Through project-based learning (PBL), I have been able to focus on what I am passionate about. Four years later, I can say I’m very glad I came to Bennett.
What are your plans after you graduate?
I will be attending Claremont McKenna College in California to study biology on a pre-med track.
What advice would you give rising seniors?
Memorize your social security number. I didn't know it came up so much in the college process, especially with financial aid.
What’s your favorite project-based learning (PBL) memory?
I do not think I can choose a favorite, but I have really loved all of our in-person Demo Nights. I love the few hours before Demo Night begins; it feels very chaotic but also calm. Everyone is getting ready and putting the final touches on their projects. It’s so rewarding to see the accumulation of everyone’s work from the trimester come together.
What are you excited for after Bennett?
I’m excited to experience a new place. I never really thought I would leave Chicago, and now I have an amazing opportunity that is taking me to the other side of the country. I spent the last four years pretending that they would never come to an end, but now I’m ready. Ask anyone, especially Mr.Moran, and they can tell you how I never wanted to talk about graduating. Now, I’m very excited to see all the amazing things everyone does. I’m very proud of everyone. I think we are all going to become such cool adults :)
